Schumacher set for routine checks

Michael Schumacher is to undergo routine medical checks next week to determine whether he is fit enough to return to Formula One. Schumacher is fully committed to deputising for the injured Felipe Massa at the European Grand Prix in Valencia on August 23. The 40-year-old has embarked on a rigorous training regime which has resulted in him losing over six pounds in weight. However, it was made clear from the outset a week ago any comeback after almost three years in retirement would largely depend on his fitness.
