Six Tips on Maintaining Your Bike at its Best

1. Tyre Air Pressure: Ensure tyre pressures are maintained at manufacturer recommended levels. Different pressures are recommended for single seat and pillion riding, observe them to squeeze out the optimum mileage. Over-inflated tyres do result in better mileage but play havoc with the ride, handling and stability, so don’t get desperate.

2. Brakes: Both the brakes should have the right amount of free play. To check that brakes are not binding, put the bike on the main stand and ensure that both the wheels turn freely.

3. Chain: The chain should be well lubricated and have the right amount of slack.

4. Air filter: Keep the air filter clean as dusty conditions in India tend to clog up the filter in no time. Change the air filter at recommended intervals and increase the cleaning frequency in particularly dusty climes. Clutch: Should be properly adjusted and have the right amount of free play. An over tightened clutch will cause it to slip unnoticeably and increase the fuel consumption while also burning it out quickly.

5. Engine: Again regular servicing and tune-ups will keep the engine running like clockwork and reduce your petrol bills. Pay special attention to cleaning the carburettor and maintaining valve clearences. Don’t neglect the spark plug, ensure it is clean, the gap is set correctly or replace it if past its prime as it’s the most crucial link in proper combustion. Most modern bikes require the choke to be used on cold starts as they run lean to meet emission norms as well as fuel efficiency requirements.

6. Engine Oil: Engine oil should be changed religiously. The oil thickens due to carbon deposits creating drag in the movement of engine internals. Running the bike on dirty oil will not only increase fuel consumption but also reduce the life of the engine.

Tata Indigo Manza

Let us first look interior of the Tata Manza. The steering wheel, thankfully, has nothing of the hideous design of the steering wheel of the Tata Nano. The Manza’s steering wheel looks substantial and serious. In the top-end version the Aura Plus, the wheel also encloses the driver airbag. The panel gaps that have plagued earlier cars from the company have vanished. The overall feel is that of a well thought-out car. Steering mounted audio controls are a nice touch too. Rossi: This is a ‘great achievement’

Valentino Rossi claimed his seventh premier class world title in Malaysia – the ninth of his career across all categories – on Sunday, and acknowledged the magnitude of his feat. A twelfth podium of the season for Valentino Rossi – the 163rd of his career across all classes – secured the 2009 MotoGP World Championship for the Italian at Sepang, and he was understandably delighted with the achievement. In rain-soaked conditions and after falling to tenth place from pole position after a slow start, Rossi climbed the field to secure third behind Casey Stoner and Dani Pedrosa, and explained the problems that faced him before the start of the race. Having been pushed throughout the season to retain his crown by team-mate Jorge Lorenzo, who finished fourth, Rossi paid special tribute to the 22 year-old Spaniard’s efforts.

Hero Honda New Karizma ZMR

Hero Honda has launched the revamped version of its performance motorcycle, the Karizma ZMR. Introduced at a price of Rs 91,000 ex-showroom Delhi, the new bike will go up against the likes of other performance bikes in the Indian market such as the Bajaj Pulsar 220 DTSi and the Yamaha YZF-R15. Hero Honda has ensured that the new bike is not just a cosmetic upgrade, but the changes in the exteriors and the design are major and will establish the Karizma ZMR as an all-new bike. The ZMR now features a full fairing that clads the entire engine to pronounce the big-bike feel. Redesigned rear quarter panels and an all new LED taillamp round up the design changes on the new bike. The engine sees a mild power upgrade from 16.8PS to 17.6PS, but now features fuel-injection that replaces the carburetor. Taking a cue from its competitors, the new bike has also been fitted with an oil-cooler, which should take some of the heat off the completely clad yet air-cooled engine. On the features front, the new bike sports clip-on handlebars and an all-new digital speedo-tacho unit. The bike seems well kitted for its price, but the competition seems to have a headstart in terms of technology and outright performance.

Rossi leading the way in BMW M Award

World Champion Valentino Rossi leads the 2009 BMW M Award standings for best qualifier, just as he leads the MotoGP general classification. With four rounds remaining in the 2009 MotoGP World Championship season Valentino Rossi could be set for double glory, with a 30 point lead in the general classification and a five point lead BMW M Award standings for best qualifier. Having started four of the last five races in pole position Rossi has recently forged ahead of team-mate Jorge Lorenzo in the BMW M Award table, though the battle for supremacy between the Fiat Yamaha pair appears to be set to go right down to the wire. Rossi allowed Lorenzo to take the BMW M Award advantage earlier in the season when he qualified off the front row at three consecutive rounds, Jerez, Le Mans and Mugello, but his qualifying form has been excellent since then and his overall record of six poles thus far in 2009 mean he is a worthy leader in the award standings.

How Riders Are Shaped For MotoGP

We all know that MotoGP is one of the toughest races in the world that demands more from the man as well as the machine. In the case of the machine we will be aware of the technologies involved in shaping the machine for the circuit and the amount of hard work put in to make the machine a winning history. But are we aware of the process that the riders are being put through before the racing season?

Now, please don’t think that the riders are celebrities and they come only a day before the season to tune their bikes according to their needs and then start practicing and then qualifying and finally race. There are much more than that, all riders have to undergo some of the toughest physical training and tests to take part in a race and this training depends on the climatic conditions, track conditions, the stress level exhibited in the race and much more. Let’s take a sneak peek into the training process.

The Annual Planning consisting of the physical training and development for a rider is divided into four periods:

  • The Pre-Season
  • Period Of Competition
  • Summer Break And
  • End Of Season

The Pre-Season: The Pre-Season usually starts in December and continues till the beginning of the forth coming March and the training during this period is basically the Cardio-Respiratory exercises to increase the stamina and overall strength of the rider. In this period the rider works six days a week with training sessions that lasts minimum six hours a day with just one day of rest. The sessions are divided into three hour sessions approximately with the first session being on a Bi-Cycle and the second one in the swimming pool.

Period Of Competition: This session depends on the proximity of a GP race. The training during this part of the year is any one of the two types: If there is a free week without a race then the physical work is completely aimed at increasing the muscle volume but if there is a week with a race then the muscle volume work-out’s will be lower but with raised intensity. This continues for two to three months and gradually the amount of work to increase the physical volume is reduced and again the intensity will be increased. This is again accompanied by introducing more specific work depending on the needs of the rider himself.

Summer Break: In this period the exercises introduced will be according to the demands of the rider which will be monitored for the riders needs whether they have to improve overall or just work to build up a specific area.

End of Season: This is the last period of the training for the current year where the body is given a month’s rest and in this period the riders will not be subjected towards total rest. They will just be given the advantage to choose the sports of their liking such as badminton, basketball etc… and other games and activities that will increase their speed of their reflexes.

Types Of Training

Cardio-Respiratory: This training is to mainly improve the strength and stamina of the rider. The work-out will be like road-racing bicycling and swimming. Riders will ride some hundreds of kilometers every year, climbing mountains similar to “Tour De France” and for the winter the riders will do a cross-country skiing.

Anerobic: This training is specifically designed in increasing the physical strength of the body to be precise the upper body and the parts are sternocleidomastoid muscle, trapezium, deltopectorals, biceps, triceps, and forearms. The main target of these exercises is to attain maximum strength with minimum volume. This exercise also concentrates mainly on reflex actions that are vital for a rider during the race failing to which the results can be fatal.

Specific Work: This happens during the racing season, depending on where the race is the physical work can be modified a bit so that the rider adapts better to the conditions that they will face during the race. The overall aim of this training is to give the rider the taste of the different conditions that they will be subjected to during the race so that the rider can very well adapt to the stressful changes without much stress.

Food Practices: Riders will have a normal diet but with an eye of general control over their food as overweight can be a loss in the race. The riders will have a complete breakfast with lots of calories as they all get burnt during the sessions on the bike. The lunch will constitute protein rich food such as meat or fish and at night carbohydrate rich food will be given as their basic design over this is to have a balanced diet without gaining weight.

Liquids: During a race the rider will approximately lose 1.5 to 2.0 Kg of liquid from their body due to excessive heat, stress etc… So, keeping them hydrated is something very important and also fundamental. The same is followed for the cycling training where the rider consumes a lot of liquid to keep his body hydrated. During the race sessions each rider will carry two essential bottles of liquid one with an isotonic mix and the other with water to keep them hydrated as dehydration means loss of electrolytes and mineral salts that produces higher level of tiredness and cramps that can be fatal during a race.

Rest: This is one of the main thing that a rider must get after all the above mentioned work out’s. The team will ensure that the rider gets 8 hrs sleep a day which is vital, missing that the rider will be subjected to tiredness and fatigue which when happens during the race can be disastrous to himself as well as the others on the circuit. If the rider needs some more rest, then the team will also ensure that the rider takes a small afternoon naps to refresh his mind and body.

These are the vigorous tests that each and every MotoGP rider is subjected before hopping on to their monsters with some X amount of Bhp’s and Torque that can top an excess of whopping 320 kmph or more in just a few seconds. Pretty easy on papers isn’t it?

Motorcycle Maintenance – Do It Yourself

Here is a list of things which you can take care of.

Main Chain & Sprocket

This is a really important part of the bike, and as you might know, the bike won’t move at all if it’s in bad condition. During the monsoons, bike that have an open chain and sprocket against a covered one would need regular oiling, but at the same time, oiling for a closed chain and sprocket can be done just once in two weeks or something. The conventional way for lubricating chains was by using molten grease. This procedure was quite lengthy and used to take almost 12 hours to complete the job. But now you get special sprays for lubricating the chain system.

Along with the sprays, engineers would also advice on greasing the chain. But an open chain system requires either grease or spray due to the fact that grease or oil is a real magnet for dust and dirt; you might realize this when you look at a well greased chain after a week or so of riding. The usual interval for greasing the chain varies depending on the weather and the riding conditions. It’s usually recommended to grease it once in one or two weeks.

For people who can’t seem to find sprays, or prefer another way of doing it, follow the directions below. There are two methods that I’m explaining here:

1st method: Remove the chain from the machine; Dip it in clean diesel for at least 5-6 hrs. Then use the brush (plastic type bristles) for cleaning the mud out of it, and then re-wash it in clean diesel. If possible, hand it for about 2-3 hours to allow the diesel to drip out of the chain. This process would make the joints and the links on the chain free and smooth, the next step would be to dip the chain in EP90 oil or in 20W40 engine oil. There is no need to buy expensive or branded oils for it. You can buy oil which could be affordable, because the ultimate aim is to clean and lubricate the chain links in order to keep it from rusting, coming back to where we left off, after dipping it in the oil keep it that way for 4-5 hrs. And then allow it to hand in order for the oil to drip away, after you have done all of the above, simply install the chain back onto the machine.

2nd method: This is a more common method used for chain cleaning. Follow the same steps as above until the part where you allow the diesel to drip off from the chain, after that, take about half a kilogram of AP3 grease and heat it up so that it turns into a molten liquid. After its liquid enough, pour the same onto the chain and wait till the grease turns solid. After making sure that the grease is cold, remove the chain from the drive system and remove all the extra grease by wiping with the help of a soft cloth. This would make the chain ready to use again and so you can install it back on to the machine.

Battery

This happens to be an essential spare in a two wheeler. On our Indian roads, the horn and warning lights are an important element, these systems require the battery for functioning.

A battery is made up of lead, which is dipped in acid water. Acid water also means electrolyte, this means that the battery acid can actually damage the paint job and cause corrosion to other parts as well, so when you handle a battery, make sure you do so with care. Also, one common problem that batteries face is the oxidation or terminals. Each battery has a positive(+) and negative (-) terminal and overtime, the reactions in the battery cause these terminals to oxidize and that in turn reduces the voltage it can deliver.

So, how this can be avoided? Well in the market there are special sprays available for battery terminals. ‘Battery Coat’ is the best spray in my opinion and this can be sprayed on the terminals to remove or avoid oxidation. The spray avoids the terminals from direct contact to the air. If the spray is not readily, available then the best and the most conventional way to solve this problem is by using VASELINE petroleum jelly. By applying some amount of petroleum jelly the oxidation will not take place. The main drawback of this jelly is that it has a low melting point and during summer seasons, you might find that you need to do it a little often.

Greasing Points

Control levers, brake springs, brake pedals are some of the common points where its advisable to apply grease. Different climates also dictates the use of different types of lubrication. When it rains, it would be unadvisable to use oil for lubrication as it would get washed away easily. Grease would be the best for the monsoon. In summer as we know the temperature is high and its usually always dry. Generally air flows with dust particles. So in summer using oil is the best option for some of the spares. In rains, generally, the temperature becomes very low. At this time greasing would be the best option rather than oiling. Grease attracts dust very fast and could create resistance in moving parts.

Brake Adjustment

This process is very simple and can save you a lot more than money. Every vehicle would have its own basic tool kit. Generally all motorcycles, scooters have 13mm nut size for adjusting the rear brakes. A suitable tool for this bolt would be in the tool kit. There needs to be a little caution applied when tightening the brakes as a tight setting can jam the brakes and cause a lot of problems like engine and brake overheating and also low mileage, at the same time a loose brake setting can slow your reaction time down. So adjust it as required.

Washing

One of my friends used to wash his Bullet for at least 6-7 hours. Well yes 6-7 hours, wondering why? Passion. He used to wash with brush, diesel, cleaning soap etc.

Many washing centers simply use a soap mixture and a dirty towel (which can really scratch your paint job). They would just do it for the money. You, on the other hand, know your vehicle well and so it would be easy for you to clean it, here are a few tips that can help you. Oil stains can be removed easily by using solvents like diesel or kerosene. First spray some water on the machine and then use diesel or kerosene. Then spray water for cleaning it. If you own a new machine, you can keep its paint looking like that everytime by following some simple steps. Use a soft, clean towel and try to wash the mud (on the painted parts) out rather than scrape it off. Also, as much as possible, use a Ph neutral shampoo. Look on the label before purchasing it. After washing don’t forget to oil or grease the joints or parts as told above. Avoid greasing or oil before wash as it may become useless.

Control Levers

These levers are made up of some kind of alloys. But since it is a moving part that a rider would use frequently, make sure you grease the joints well.

Hinges

These are usually found on Royal Enfield Bullets and Honda scooters. These hinges always require oil and rust cleaner spray to keep rust away and they can break loose if not well maintained.

Lorenzo takes win

Fiat Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo got his third victory of 2009 at Indianapolis, as his team-mate Valentino Rossi and Spanish rival Dani Pedrosa both crashed in the 28 lap Brickyard contest. The battle for the 2009 World Championship was blown wide open on Sunday at the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix as Jorge Lorenzo scored a great win and his Fiat Yamaha colleague Valentino Rossi suffered his first DNF of the year. Lorenzo eventually crossed the line with a 9.5s winning margin to cut Rossi’s championship lead in half, as the deficit dropped from 50 to 25 points, with five races remaining.

Rossi taking nothing for granted

Valentino Rossi has predicted that team-mate Jorge Lorenzo will provide his stiffest opposition in the MotoGP World Championship. Rossi, who won the last round at Brno in the Czech Republic after Lorenzo crashed, heads the series standings by 50 points but is not taking winning the championship for granted. Last year's race at Indianapolis was hit by a hurricane and Rossi hopes the weather in America is better this weekend. Rossi admitted: "As I said in Brno, it would be stupid for us to relax and consider the championship won, anything can happen and we know that Lorenzo will be very strong this weekend and determined to make up for the last two races. We must keep focused. "Rossi won at Indy last year despite the hurricane, with team-mate Lorenzo finishing third.

Spectacular Indianapolis awaits MotoGP

The second ever World Championship visit to Indianapolis Motor Speedway takes place this weekend following 2008’s historic inaugural Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix. This weekend’s visit to Indianapolis will see last year’s race-winner Valentino Rossi looking for another victory to augment his standings lead at the twelfth round of the season. In the first ever premier class MotoGP World Championship contest at the famous ‘Brickyard’ last year Rossi took maximum points as he was awarded the win, leading by six seconds when the scheduled 28 lap race was curtailed on the 20th lap, with Nicky Hayden and Jorge Lorenzo placing second and third respectively. Rossi and his MotoGP rivals will hope for good weather this time out - following last year’s event when the remnants of Hurricane Ike hit raceday at the iconic American venue – with the Italian star hoping to increase his current 50 point championship advantage, on the back of yet another success story in the Czech Republic at the last round. Rossi’s Fiat Yamaha team-mate Lorenzo finished just in front of him on the timesheet in the second and final post-race test of the year on the Monday after the Czech race and the Spaniard will aim to bounce back from his two DNFs at Brno and Donington Park, as he attempts to claw his way back into the title battle with six Grands Prix remaining. Meanwhile, an announcement on whether Lorenzo will switch to Ducati or remain with Yamaha for 2010 is imminent.

Lorenzo to confirm 2010 plans next week

The rider’s manager states ‘now is the right moment to make a decision'. MotoGP star Jorge Lorenzo could make an announcement on his future at next week’s Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix, if not before, with a confirmed offer from Ducati and a renewed deal from Yamaha on the table. According to his manager and representative, Marcos Hirsch, who spoke to motogp.com on Friday (21st August) Lorenzo and his advisors are now considering the two options, with a move onto Honda machinery already ruled out. Hirsch commented, “Until the middle of this week we were still ticking off the boxes and finalising the offers. We are getting close to concluding our evaluation of the pros and cons of the offers and we acknowledge that now is the right moment to make a decision.” Without hinting as to what the final decision will be Hirsch also stated that confirmation could come next weekend at Indy, with the announcement made by the relevant team. The rider’s manager added that sporting factors would be the key to the decision, commenting, “money is important but it is at the bottom of our list of priorities.”

Your LOCAL Internet

Moving from one state to another is not an easy thing to do. You not only get stress from packing, changing address, and calling a moving company and stuff, but also doing the same thing when you get to the new place. Thank goodness there is the service which we can use. I like their unique search algorithm that ensures every user to get a result from Chicago Apartments they are looking. Rossi closes in on title

Valentino Rossi romped to his fifth win of the season in Brno to move a step closer to a sixth FIM MotoGP Championship. The Fiat Yamaha star started the Czech Republic race on pole position ahead of team-mate and nearest challenger Jorge Lorenzo and the duo fought out a race-long duel before the young Spaniard crashed out with five laps remaining to all but end his title hopes. Repsol Honda rider Dani Pedrosa inherited second after Lorenzo's error with Toni Elias, Andrea Dovizioso and Loris Capirossi rounding out the top five. With Casey Stoner beginning his three-race break to recover from a mystery illness, Mika Kallio stepped into the factory Marlboro Ducati team for his debut and was lying in a creditable ninth before crashing on the penultimate lap, while British rider James Toseland was ninth on his Tech 3 Yamaha. Pedrosa led at turn one ahead of Rossi after a trademark quick start but the masterful Italian took just three corners to slide past to leave Lorenzo in third.

Lorenzo soon passed Pedrosa on lap three to chase down Rossi and the pair then exchanged a series of new lap records before Lorenzo made a fine move with seven laps remaining to take the lead. Rossi then made a move at the same corner with five laps to go and Lorenzo buckled under the pressure to crash out and leave Rossi to streak away to a 102nd career win, some 11.766 seconds ahead of Pedrosa. Lorenzo - who also crashed out at Donington last time out - is now 50 points behind Rossi with the absent Stoner back in third in the standings.

Lorenzo close to qualifying pace in Brno warm up

Spanish star Jorge Lorenzo was more than 0.4s faster than Valentino Rossi in the Czech morning run. Fiat Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo showed his rapid pace again in the MotoGP warm up at the Cardion ab Czech Republic Grand Prix as he lapped one tenth of a second off his own qualifying time from Saturday and was 0.415s ahead of Valentino Rossi, who was second fastest and starts from pole this afternoon. The third quickest participant in the session, Dani Pedrosa, was nearly a second down on Lorenzo’s pace and will have his work cut out from third on the grid if he is to stay with the Yamaha factory pair in the race. Colin Edwards and Toni Elías, who both start on the second row, were fourth and fifth respectively having also looked good on Saturday, whilst British Grand Prix winner and fellow row two starter Andrea Dovizioso was tenth in the session.

Rossi on pole in Czech Republic despite crash

A rare qualifying crash for the MotoGP World Champion at Brno did not prevent him from securing pole position for Sunday’s eleventh race of the 2009 season. Valentino Rossi survived a late crash during qualifying at the Cardian ab Czech Republic Grand Prix to take his fifth pole position of the season, in clear and sunny conditions at the undulating Brno track. At one of his favourite venues on the calendar Rossi took his Yamaha M1 round the circuit in 1’56.145 on the 21st of his 23 laps after a battle for supremacy with his team-mate and closest World Championship rival Jorge Lorenzo – who trails him by 25 points in the standings and was 0.05s behind the Italian in this session. Lorenzo has looked good throughout the weekend and will be confident of pushing Rossi hard in Sunday’s race. Perhaps the Spaniard will take heart from Rossi’s late crash as he keeps the pressure on from the other side of the Fiat Yamaha pit-box. In the absence of Casey Stoner, Dani Pedrosa could be the biggest threat to Rossi and Lorenzo, with the talented Repsol Honda rider having qualified in third place, just under four tenths down on Rossi.

Lorenzo stays on top ahead of qualifying

MotoGP title-chaser Jorge Lorenzo was on the pace again in FP2 at Brno. The Saturday morning MotoGP outing in pleasant conditions at the historic Brno circuit in the Czech Republic saw Jorge Lorenzo keep up his good form from Friday as he lapped in a superb time of 1’56.331s to state his intentions to his rivals. The Spanish star is looking to bounce back from a Donington DNF having crashed out in the UK and he appears to be in good shape at Brno, as he seeks to cut Valentino Rossi’s 25 point championship advantage this weekend, with seven races remaining, including tomorrow’s Czech contest. Lapping the 5.4km track with his own best time of 1’56.787 Rossi was the third quickest participant in this session, whilst another strong podium candidate Dani Pedrosa was sandwiched by the Fiat Yamaha pair in second place, with a lap just over a tenth of a second down on Lorenzo’s best. As he was on Friday afternoon Monster Yamaha Tech 3’s Colin Edwards was fourth fastest, joined by fellow veteran Loris Capirossi of the Rizla Suzuki team in the top five, Capirossi lapping around a second off Lorenzo and Edwards seven tenths down on the Spaniard’s pace. The top ten also featured Toni Elías (San Carlo Honda Gresini), Andrea Dovizioso (Repsol Honda), Mika Kallio (Ducati Marlboro), Alex de Angelis (San Carlo Honda Gresini) and Nicky Hayden (Ducati Marlboro). MotoGP qualifying at the Cardion ab Czech Republic Grand Prix takes place at 1.55pm local time and can be followed live here on motogp.com.

Pedrosa reflects on first day back on track

Repsol Honda’s Dani Pedrosa is enjoying himself in the Czech Republic and he returned to free practice action after the summer break as Friday’s third best performer. Dani Pedrosa’s job on Saturday will be to chase down Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi at the head of the timesheets, just as he will attempt to do in the World Championship standings in the final seven races of 2009. Riding pain-free unlike on several occasions this season, Pedrosa hopes to show his best form for the remainder of the year starting at this weekend’s Cardion ab Czech Republic Grand Prix and he made a decent start on Friday. Having lapped third quickest in FP1 he stated, “On the track the feeling was good, especially on the racing line, although outside it was a little bit dirty, but not so bad. Also the lap times were pretty good for a Friday. Everything was ok on the tyres even though the track is aggressive towards them here, so you have to work on this point to make sure you have good tyre life. On the new swingarm fitted to the RC212V this weekend at Brno, Pedrosa stated, “It is just a small modification to help improve corner entry but we need to make more laps with it yet.” Further to HRC’s Friday announcement that Pedrosa and his factory Honda colleague Andrea Dovizioso are on the verge of signing two year contract extensions to keep them with their current team, the Spaniard noted, “I think this is important as it helps us to focus on our racing. I have people that I trust to do this job and it looks like everything is going well.”

Rossi and Lorenzo set to resume title battle

World Championship frontrunners both looking for return to form after disappointing Donington results. Fiat Yamaha pair Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo arrive in the Czech Republic for round eleven of the 2009 MotoGP season this week riding high at the top of the standings, despite a disappointing last race in the UK. The highly talented pair sit first and second in the general classification with seven rounds remaining, Rossi leading by 25 points, with an intriguing run-in to the end of the season awaiting. Brno is a particularly special track for Rossi as he took the first of his 101 career victories there, in the 125cc class in 1996. The 30 year-old has a strong record there overall having since added a 250cc victory and four MotoGP wins to his tally, including last year on the way to his eighth World title.

Schumacher out; Badoer in for Ferrari

Ferrari have reacted quickly to the news that Michael Schumacher will not returning by naming Luca Badoer as his replacement. Schumacher, a seven-time F1 world champion, had agreed to help out former team Ferrari and step in for Felipe Massa on a temporary basis after the Brazilian suffered head injuries at the Hungarian Grand Prix last month. But the German has now abandoned the comeback after failing to shrug off a neck injury suffered in a motorbike accident in February. The 40-year-old had intended to return in Valencia on August 23 but testing designed to help Schumacher re-acclimatise himself with the rigours of F1 have shown the injuries to his neck are too severe. Badoer last raced in Formula One a decade ago. He made 48 starts for Lola, Minardi and Forti Course but failed to register a single point.

Stoner sidelined by illness

Casey Stoner has confirmed he will miss the next three rounds of the FIM MotoGP World Championship due to a mystery illness. Stoner, the 2007 MotoGP champion, has been suffering from severe fatigue since the Grand Prix of Catalunya in June and was a dismal 14th at Donington Park in the last race aboard his Marlboro Ducati. Doctors have now advised the 23-year-old Australian, who lies third in the standings behind Fiat Yamaha duo Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo, to sit out the next three rounds beginning in Brno this Sunday.

Schumacher set for routine checks

Michael Schumacher is to undergo routine medical checks next week to determine whether he is fit enough to return to Formula One. Schumacher is fully committed to deputising for the injured Felipe Massa at the European Grand Prix in Valencia on August 23. The 40-year-old has embarked on a rigorous training regime which has resulted in him losing over six pounds in weight. However, it was made clear from the outset a week ago any comeback after almost three years in retirement would largely depend on his fitness.

Yamaha chance of triple crown - 'Rider, Team & Constructors'

Looking back over the ten rounds of the 2009 World Championship to date, as MotoGP begins its short summer break, Yamaha’s dominance has been an evident trend thus far. Indeed, last weekend’s final visit to Donington Park for the British Grand Prix was the first time that neither Valentino Rossi or his team mate Jorge Lorenzo have finished on the podium this year. With MotoGP’s two main protagonists thus far in 2009 on their books it is no surprise to see the Fiat Yamaha team sitting 140 points clear at the head of the Teams’ World Championship standings. Yamaha have an strong chance of repeating 2008’s triple crown of Rider, Team and Constructors’ World titles.

Hamilton: McLaren on the up

Lewis Hamilton believes his first victory for nine months was just reward for his "completely knackered" team. McLaren have burned the midnight oil these past few months in a bid to build a race-winning car again after spending the first half of the season towards the back of the grid, and it has paid dividends. The rocket-red victory shirts, celebratory loud music and flowing champagne were all back in evidence inside the McLaren brand centre yesterday following Hamilton's Hungarian Grand Prix triumph. The success ended Hamilton's five-race drought without a point, and 10 since the last time he took the chequered flag in China last October. The world champion looked the part, and the relief was palpable as he said: "It's been almost a year - such a long time that it felt surreal to win again.

Keep your vehicle in good health

Until our vehicle functioning stops, no one thinks about their vehicle maintenance. Mostly owners focus only on the external coat of paint to keep it clean and shiny. Instead of taking the vehicle to the service station it is better to take a look at the owner's manual that will provide all the necessary details about its routine maintenance. Batteries, Tyre Pressure must be checked at regular intervals. It is necessary to check the engine oil level once a week. Use good spare parts. If water is used for cooling the engine then the owner must take care to ensure that the water is changed regularly, with which the windshield can also be cleaned.
